The SankeyBI difference:

Data storytelling

Tell the story of your data. Flows can enter and exit nodes from any direction your choose.

Auto-fit, then tune by hand

Load your data and the auto-fit creates a smart routing of your data. Use your human touch to fit the diagram to your needs.

  • Draggable nodes, draggable flows
  • Snap to grid

Flows stick together

Flows that follow the same route stay together. Move the route and the node face reorders to provide a clean crisp look.

Loops work

The real world is not linear. Recycling happens. Flows can loop back to another node or back to the same node.

Four routing styles

Smooth: curved flows
Polyline: connectors at any angle
Octilinear: connectors at 45° / 90°
Orthogonal: connectors at 90°

The same Sankey diagram drawn in each routing style, with its own curvature.

Free to choose your flow direction

Read the same diagram left to right, right to left, top to bottom or bottom to top. You can even add arrows to show the flow direction.

Fully interactive

Explore the data. Click a node or flow and see what it is connected to.

  • Cross-highlighting and cross-filtering.
  • Tooltips for nodes, flows and flow types.

Background image

Put an SVG, PNG or JPEG behind the flows, such as a map or factory layout. Place your nodes where they belong and let the flows tell the story.

And the rest

Icons
Add SVG icons to your nodes to help understanding
Node shapes
Custom design of nodes. Can even be proportional to the flows joining them.
Flow labels
The flow size in the middle of each flow, or a percentage of the diagram or of its source node.
Arrange flows
Auto-fits flows that run along each other, and leaves the routes you dragged alone.
Layout file
Copy the whole layout out as text, and paste it into another report to restore it.
Balance check
Flags nodes whose inflow and outflow differ by more than a tolerance you set.

Get started

SankeyBI is on its way to Microsoft AppSource. Until then, download the .pbiviz file from the GitHub releases page.

  1. Add it to Power BI

In Power BI Desktop, open the Visualizations pane, select the three dots and choose Import a visual from a file.

  2. Add your data

Drop fields Source, Target and Value on the visual. Add a Flow type to split flows into stacked bands.

  3. Be creative!
